Spillman
Agronomy Farm 50th Anniversary Event
The
50th anniversary of Spillman Agronomy Farm will be celebrated at
the Spillman Farm Field Day on July 7, 2005. The farm is located
just outside of Pullman, WA. Remarkably, 2005 is also the 100th
anniversary of the first varietel wheat release from WSU. Tentative
plans for the field day program are to feature the years 1905, 1955,
and 2005 by way of historical nurseries; discuss varietel breeding
evolution (i.e., introduction of semi-dwarfs wheat, standup and
semi-leafless peas and lentils, introduction of winter lentils);
and also discuss current status and future direction of breeding,
as well as the farm.
The field day will also feature a historical equipment display,
historical photo display, and an outstanding noon program. The Spillman
Anniversary committee, chaired by Dr. Bill Pan (wlpan@wsu.edu,
335-3611), is working hard to make this a grand and memorable event.
In the near future a Web site will be created and located at http://css.wsu.edu
containing more details as they become available.
