Kok
Hired as new Extension Conservation Tillage Specialist
Washington
State University and the University of Idaho have jointly filled
the position of Extension Conservation Tillage Specialist. This
position was formerly held by the late Roger Veseth. Hans Kok, a
native of the Netherlands, started in mid-September. Hans received
his Ph.D. from the University of Idaho in 1989, and worked at Kansas
State Extension for eight years as Conservation Tillage Specialist.
He just completed a six-year assignment with Monsanto, in Indianapolis
and Memphis, also as conservation tillage specialist. Hans will
be on the PNDSA board and will be involved in the January Direct
Seed conference in Spokane. He also plans to build contacts with
area farmers, commodity organizations, researchers, private industry
and others actively involved in conservation tillage. "Having
been out of the PNW for the last 14 years, there is a lot of catching
up to do" according to Kok, "I notice quite an increase
in conservation tillage compared to the late 80's." He is married
to Kathy and has a 22-month-old son, Will. Hans will be housed at
the University of Idaho. His contact information is hanskok@uidaho.edu,
(208)885-5971.
