FARMING UPDATE - MAY1996
June 27 Research Field Day
on No-Till Farming
A Field Day on no-till
farming research is scheduled for June 27 at the Palouse Conservation
Research Station near Pullman, Washington. It is sponsored by the USDA-Agricultural
Research Service, Washington State University and the University of Idaho.
Registration and
refreshments will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the A.G. Law Seed Building at
the Research Station, located about 1.5 miles north of Pullman on Highway
27 and then ½ mile west on the Albion Road. Field tours will be conducted
from 8:00 to 12:15 p.m. A preliminary list of program topics includes:
- New cropping systems
research program on continuous no-till farming - Alex Ogg (ARS) Field
demonstration of three no-till drills and viewing of spring wheat and
spring pea no-till trials with the drills - Roger Veseth (WSU/UI), Alex
Ogg (ARS), Tim Fiez (WSU) and John Driessen (ARS)
- Interactions
of Roundup application timing, fertilizer management practices, drill
selection and seed treatment on root diseases in no-till spring barley
- Tim Fiez (WSU), Alex Ogg, (ARS), Roger Veseth (WSU/UI) and R., James
Cook (ARS)
- New varieties
and technologies for control of root diseases in no-till wheat - R.
James Cook and Steve Jones (ARS)
- New technologies
for control of jointed goatgrass and other winter annual grasses in
winter wheat under conservation systems - Alex Ogg (ARS)
- Burn/low-till
production systems: A regional research update - Don McCool and Chris
Pannkuk (ARS)
- New pea and lentil
varieties for no-till systems - Fred Muehlbauer (ARS)
- Interactions
of liming and seeding date on Cephalosporium stripe in winter wheat
- Tim Murray (WSU)
- Effects of tillage
and residue management systems on soil quality - Ann Kennedy and Tami
Stubbs (ARS)
- No-till corn
in the dryland Inland Northwest?? - Brian Lewis (Pioneer Hybrid) and
Tim Fiez (WSU)
A no-host lunch
will follow the field tours. Robert Reginato, Associate Administrator
of the USDA-ARS in Washington, D.C., has been invited to be the luncheon
speaker.
Credits have been
requested for pesticide applicator recertification and Certified Crop
Adviser continuing education in Washington and Idaho. For more information
