Don Wysocki and Hans Kok are working on an Impact Assessment of the STEEP program. With the help of veterans Bob Papendick and Keith Saxton, they are putting together an estimate of the impacts the STEEP program has had on air, soil and water quality. They will also address economic impacts, influences STEEP has had on Farm Bill policy and changes in farming practices and farmer attitudes. They hope to have draft ready by this fall. In addition to scouring the vast amount of data created during the 30+ years of STEEP research, they will conduct farmer interviews, and work with agencies such as the NRCS.
