1995 Spring Malt Barley Demonstrations in North Central Idaho

Davern Riggers, Dale Stuart, John Hermann, *Bill Flory
with Kevin Anderson, Great Western Malting Company and
Larry J. Smith, UI/Nez Perce County Extension

Locations

Melrose, Weippe, Genesee, and Winchester, Idaho

Comments

A single replicate was planted at each of four (4) locations using the farmers' normal management practices. The Winchester location was not harvested due to weather conditions. The barley variety strips were placed in as uniform soil areas as possible. Plots ranged to a maximum width of 30 ft. and up to 800 ft. long.

Conclusion

The calculated L.S.D. at 5 percent was 0.4 tons per acre but yields did not vary beyond that amount, and thus no statistical difference was found. Chinook and Crest, when averaged across all locations, were highest yielding. Melrose was the highest yielding location.

Test weights and protein percentages are available upon request.

Data

LSD (5%) = 0.41 tons/acre CV = 11.6%

*Flory location (Winchester) was not harvested due to late fall rain.
